When you’ve got views like this…

  • June 6, 2020

Why leave the house? Oh, maybe because there are five adults and a dog in it. #pandemiclife

We were warned about crowds and heat and humidity We were warned about crowds and heat and humidity in Istanbul. But we also found phenomenal historic sights, fun ferry rides, AMAZING food, a stunning skyline (actually multiple views on the European and Asian sides), and friendly people — from our helpful hotel desk clerk to our waiter who spent 14 years in Philadelphia (he thought it was delightful we were from the U.S.). Do not regret for a second spending three nights in Istanbul on our way home from the Maldives.
The marine life in the Maldives is mind blowing. T The marine life in the Maldives is mind blowing. The first time my husband went underwater at our resort’s “house reef” (ie the reef we could snorkel to from our villa; no boat trip required) he popped up and said, “It’s like an aquarium!” Indeed, the number and variety of fish we spotted were unlike any environment we’d ever been in — and we’ve snorkeled in more than a dozen tropical vacation spots. Every day (and we snorkeled for 10 days straight) we’d see something new. I have 80+ curated photos of different types of marine life. So, posted here is a fraction of what we saw in the crystal clear water— not shown, two types of slithering eels, spotted eagle rays, spiny lobster, gangly starfish, and blacktip reef sharks we swam with! I’d say snorkeling in the Maldives was a magical once-in-a-lifetime experience, but I’m already keeping a list of “best house reef” resorts I’d love to visit for our 30th anniversary trip. 💕
